[Yoga] expands the conscious mind and opens the body.
I am Miranda Chapman, the founder of [ ahimsa yoga ].
I discovered yoga in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in two thousand and five, crafted it in North and South America, carried it to Korea, ambled it through Australia, realized it in Nepal, cultivated it in India, and now, full circle, back to Canada, to Montreal, to my city of birth, to teach it.
After practicing many forms of yoga (Ashtanga Vinyasa, Bikram, Kriya, etc.), my soulful connection to traditional Hatha yoga remained the most powerful. Hatha in Sanskrit means 'sun/moon'; yoga in Sanskrit means 'to yoke' - yoga is the science that yokes the sun and moon or, the mind and body.
I hold a two hundred and fifty (250) hour teacher training certification from Yoga Vidya Gurukul in Trimbakeshwar, India. I am trained in ancient Hatha yoga techniques and Astang yoga philosophies as well. While my style is an amalgamation of all my yogic experiences, traditional Hatha is the root.
My classes incorporate Sanskrit mantra chanting, personal development of asana with focus on the benefits of each posture, breath awareness, and meaningful physical adjustments. All classes are taught in English, for the time being!
